The work volunteers do at Historic Christ Church is nothing short of remarkable. Whether greeting visitors or leading them through the church, researching people active in the colonial parish or setting flower arrangements and tending to the herb garden, our volunteers truly help make Christ Church the unique place it is.
To honor them and their dedicated service, the Foundation hosts two recognition events each year. In March, as a kick-off to our season opening April 1, volunteers gather at nearby Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury for our Volunteer Celebration. In November, the Bayne Center on the grounds of Christ Church serves as host for our Recognition Brunch, where the Chair of the Volunteer Council presents awards honoring those volunteers who have reached the five, ten, fifteen, twenty, and, yes, even thirty-year milestones. Periodically, the Foundation will also host receptions for significant volunteer achievements, such as the Research Committee’s publication of the Historic Christ Church Heritage Book Series. |
Foundation President Paul Sciacchitano presents 30-year service awards to (from left) Virginia Kelley, Jane Sheeran, Nancy Clark, Louise Denegre, Madeline Hooper, Rebecca Goode, and Didi Roberts, who are joined by that year's Chair of the Volunteer Council, Camille Bennett. This Recognition Brunch, held in November 2002, marked the 30th anniversary of the Volunteer Council, of which Hooper and Sheeran were founding members. Not shown with the other 30-year service award recipients is Vera Elmore. |
