| Like Spring Training, the Continuing Education programs at Historic Christ Church are an integral part of the volunteer experience. Each fall and spring, volunteers take trips to other important sites related to colonial Virginia. From parish churches, gentry houses, and the brickyard at Colonial Williamsburg to archaeological sites, historical museums, and the Library of Virginia, volunteers use these visits to enhance their own understanding of the period and put Christ Church into the larger perspective of colonial Virginia. They also use them to have a little fun and enjoy the company of their fellow volunteers! These trips, particularly the ever-popular “Parish Crawl,” feature great lunches and often a little wine and cheese reception at the end of the day. | ![]() Volunteers gather on the

| In addition to field trips, the Continuing Education program also takes in a volunteer Book Club that meets quarterly. The club reads a wide range of works related to the colonial experience, covering such topics as architecture, servitude and slavery, law and society, gender, patriarchy, personal diaries, the Revolution, disestablishment, and life in the West Indies and other colonies. Many volunteers will also carpool to the Virginia Historical Society and other institutions on occasion to hear lectures by scholars in the field or to see exhibitions related to colonial Virginia.
