- Open to 4th-grade students from Lancaster Middle, Northumberland Elementary, and Chesapeake Academy.
- Projects must deal with some element of Virginia history from the period 1607-1789.
- Entries accepted in two categories:
- Best Original Essay: An original essay on an event, person, or cultural development which shaped Virginia during the period 1607-1789. Essay should be about 300 words.
- Best Original Exhibit: An original exhibit, display, or design which tells the story of an event, person, or cultural development in Virginia during the period 1607-1789.
- Only one person may work on a project submitted in the Essay category.
- One or two people may work on a project submitted in the Exhibit category.
- Exhibits may include models, dioramas, displays, etc. Be creative! And try to use combinations of images, objects, and text to tell your story.
- Essays should be in your own words, not copied from a book or website. The judges want to read what you have learned about a particular subject, not what you have copied. Essays should be typed if possible.
- Each student or pair of students is allowed only one entry, in either the Essay or Exhibit category. Students may not submit entries for both categories.
- Staff from Historic Christ Church will be available to assist students with historical research and/or exhibit design if needed.
- All entries must be submitted by Friday, March 20, 2009.
- The Rappahannock Art League Studio Gallery in Kilmarnock will host an exhibition of the fair March 21-28 (Gallery open Tuesday-Saturday 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.). Fair will be on display at Historic Christ Church March 31-April 22, Monday-Friday, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
- Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and honorable mentions in each category.
- All participants will be entered in a drawing to win two tickets to Busch Gardens, Williamsburg.
- An awards ceremony for all participants, family members, and teachers will be held April 22, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Historic Christ Church.
