Judith Armistead Carter Tomb: Removing the Top

The lift Tidewater Preservation will use to raise the top to JAC's tomb stands ready. The tops to all the Carter tombs were replaced in 1980 with replicas made of Culpepper black granite.

The replica top to JAC's tomb is raised for the first time since 1980.

Fred Ecker (right), Greg Cowan (middle), and E.J. Benedict roll the lift and heavy top away from JAC's tomb.

The replica top was placed on a bed of mortar to help bind it to the other parts of JAC's tomb.
