The Carter Reception Center houses a new museum (completely renovated in 2009) with exhibitions on the history of Christ Church, the Carter family, Christ Church Parish, and the preservation of the church building and landscape. The museum has several interactive exhibitions and a hands-on section where children can become "undertakers" (builders in colonial Virginia) by constructing brick walls, arches with keystones and mortise and tenon roof trusses. The center serves as a welcome point for visitors and features an orientation video narrated by Roger Mudd. Docents are available to lead guided tours of the church. A newly designed gift shop located in the Carter Reception Center offers jewelry, paintings, books, collectibles, and unique items related to the heritage of the Northern Neck. | ||
