| The hoop and the stick, the bilbo catcher, draughts, nine pins, the ball and cup, and dominoes are some of the games you will find at "Second Saturdays." You can try your hand writing with a quill pen by signing a copy of the Declaration of Independence or filling in a family tree. For crafts, you can make your own whirligig, a toy popular with children in colonial America, or you can use an array of colorful beads to create a new necklace or bracelet. | ![]() Rolling the hoop with the stick is a fun yet challenging game from colonial Virginia. |
![]() Visitors to "Second Saturday" can try on clothing similar to that worn by people in colonial Virginia. |
If you like dressing up, try on some of our reproduction eighteenth-century clothing and compare it with today's styles. An artifact hunt awaits you in the museum, where you can search for objects related to the history of Christ Church and Robert Carter's home, Corotoman, which burned in 1729. You can also explore our new interactive exhibit, "The Houses of Robert Carter". You and your family might also enjoy a tour of the remarkable interior of Christ Church, or you can just stroll around the grounds and take in the quiet beauty of the churchyard. Come visit us, then, on a "Second Saturday" at Historic Christ Church and learn about this amazing colonial Virginia landmark while having fun with the whole family. |
