Strategic Plan 2009-2011

MISSION STATEMENT
To preserve Robert Carter’s gift of old Christ Church, Lancaster County, Virginia, and its ancient churchyard in its dignity and beauty, to care for its surroundings, and to record and tell its history and that of its people, that this legacy of our common heritage may be a source of learning and inspiration.

VISION STATEMENT
The Foundation for Historic Christ Church strives to function as a model of excellence among stewards of National Historic Landmarks. To do this, it will share its knowledge broadly with scholars and the general public, seek out local, national and international visitors, utilize a wide range of technology and media, and preserve the site as a place of beauty, inspiration and sanctuary.
OBJECTIVES
Preservation: Maintain Christ Church in pristine physical condition consistent with standards for National Historic Landmarks. Document and share the history of its preservation
Exploration: Advance and disseminate knowledge of Christ Church, the early colonial history of Lancaster County and the Virginia Colony, and the lives of the people who inhabited the Northern Neck.
Intrepretive Programming: Develop programs to attract and engage scholars, local, national and international visitors, volunteers and the general public in exploring and learning from the history and interpretive resources of the foundation.
Resources: 1. Develop, implement and periodically review policies, plans and procedures for implementation of the foundation’s mission in accordance with its values and vision.
2. Support ongoing operations of the foundation, including each of the above objectives, through acquisition, maintenance and optimal use of physical, financial and human resources.
